Everyone’s A Pitty on St. Pitty’s Day

It’s been a great start to 2019 at CCAS and March is shaping up to be an exciting month! With everyone anxiously looking forward to our 9th annual St. Pitty’s Day adoption event, there’s much excitement in the air and the animals know their forever home is coming soon. Read below for information on this year’s St. Pitty’s Day adoption event, our January shelter stats, and check out this month’s blog, provided by Maddie’s Fund, about a remarkable study they conducted regarding access to veterinary care.

St Pitty's Day Pet Adoption Event

St. Pitty’s Day Adoption Event 
March 16th

Mark your calendars for Contra Costa Animal Services’ Saint Pitty’s Day event on Saturday, March 16th. The event features free adoptions of bully breed dogs, and $25 adoptions of all other animals. Come learn about bully breeds and what makes them ideal companion animals... or just come and look at cats doing silly stuff. This year’s St. Pitty’s Day will include:

  • Free & Reduced Cost Adoptions
  • Bully Breed Education & Awareness
  • Photo Opportunities Star Wars Characters
  • Local Vendors & More
Saint Pitty’s Day events will be held at Contra Costa Animal Services’ shelters in Martinez and Pinole. For more information, visit

Three year old Cinnamon #A0932650 (formerly Orla) was adopted by Debbie who recently lost one of her precious cats to illness and was ready to open her home and her heart to another shelter cat. Cinnamon will be sharing a home with a long-haired ginger male cat named Nutmeg, who was also adopted from our shelter a few years ago. Congratulations on your new home!

Vote by mail

Adopt a Pet and Early Absentee Voting

CCAS has partnered with the Contra Costa County Elections Division to encourage County residents to adopt a pet AND vote by mail. As a Vote By Mail Voter, you will receive your ballot a month before Election Day. If you are interested in updating your registration, please email the elections office at or mail the form in the below link to 555 Escobar Street, Martinez, CA 94553. If you would like to register to vote, please visit

December Stats Available

We have recently compiled our stats and have posted them on our website. Why does it take so long to post our stats? Because we have a 60 day return policy, we want to ensure that our numbers accurately reflect that data.
Some highlights include:

  • Live Release Rate – All Animals = 92.24%
  • Live Release Rate – Dogs & Cats = 92.31%
  • Live Release Rate – Dogs = 96.01%
  • Live Release Rate – Cats = 85.20%
  • Adoptions = 203
  • Transfers = 130
  • Overall Animal Intake = 606

Maddie’s Fund is one of CCAS’ strongest partners and a generous funder of our work.
