August 2020

Dog Days of Summer

It’s hard to believe that August is already here. While most of 2020 has been focused on dealing with COVID-19, CCAS has made the most of this time, implementing new processes and features that have allowed us to continue to provide the services our residents most need during these last few months. Read on to learn more about virtual adoptions at CCAS and our participation in NBC’s August Clear the Shelter Month, our updated process for lost and found pets and our brand new online portal to report deceased animals.

Clear the Shelters Month & Virtual Adoptions

This August, CCAS is partnering with NBC, Telemundo and shelters across the country to find loving homes for as many animals as we can. The CCAS team is here to help you find the pet of your dreams! CCAS has been offering no-contact virtual adoption counseling, with all interaction being done via phone and email, until an appointment is scheduled to pick up your new pet. Our website lists our available animals and the online adoption application to submit for the animal you wish to adopt. Our team of virtual adoption counselors are standing by to call potential adopters and send the necessary documents via email before scheduling the pickup appointment. We are grateful for our community of adopters who have been happy to join us in this journey into a new age of animal adoptions!

*New* Online Deceased Animal Reporting

Contra Costa Animal Services is now accepting deceased animal reports online! To report a deceased animal, please visit the Report A Deceased Animal page on our website. Please note that CCAS will not conduct deceased animal pickups in areas that pose a safety risk to our officers. These areas include crawl spaces, cliffs, condemned buildings and other unsafe locations. Deceased animal reports will be handled as quickly as possible, though it may take up to seven days for removal.

August Adoption Update

Adoption Update

Toby Chance is celebrating his 6 year adoptaversary, and his 7 year birthday today! <3 We'd like to wish him a very very happy birthday and adoptaversary. Here is his story:
"6 years ago, after 6 months with you guys I finally went home with Human. Thank you for giving me a second chance (that’s why my middle name is Chance). I am now my Human’s certified support animal. I am allowed to go to work with her. My job is to get pets and attention from people that are stressed or anxious. It’s a win win. I get attention and it calms them down. Human and I have traveled all over. I love people, pets, bananas, and going on long walks (I can even walk without a leash when it’s safe). Plus Human and I like to travel all over. (I have even visited the Statue of Liberty)"

Lost & Found Pets

CCAS is pleased to announce that we have implemented a new online Lost and Found Pet reporting system! Owners who lost a pet, and Good Samaritans who find a pet and can provide temporarily housing, can now file an online report from their smart phone or computer, which allows users to also upload an image of the animal. The animal’s information is then posted online for others to see, and the reporting party receives automated notifications for animals matching their pet’s description that are reported in the area. The new, user-friendly process brings us in to the 21st century by digitizing the reporting process, and automating the animal matching system. So be sure to check out our Lost & Found Pets page on our website and be sure to spread the word.
