Contra Costa Animal Services Newsletter

July 2020

On behalf of everyone at CCAS, we would like to wish you a happy and safe 4th of July weekend. While this 4th will surely be unlike any other, we want to remind folks to pay special attention to their pets this weekend, the most likely weekend for pets to become lost. Check out this month’s Animal Tails Blog to learn about how you can keep your pets safe and be sure to read below about our shelter services update and the FREE adoption promotion on July 10th and 11th.

Shelter Services Update

The CCAS Pinole Shelter remains closed to the public. Our Martinez Shelter is closed to the public, except by appointment for sick/injured pets, and transfer/foster/adoption placements. Our officers continue to respond to calls for sick/injured animals and those that present a public safety concern. Over the last few weeks, we have begun spay and neuter services for shelter animals that have been adopted and reclaimed by their owners. Additionally, CCAS has opened our TNR program on a limited, by appointment, basis for feral cats to begin piloting public services while practicing social distancing. You'll find more information regarding current CCAS services here. If you have any questions, or would like to set up an appointment, please call us at 925-608-8400.

August Adoption Update

Adoption Update

Boba Fetch was adopted a couple months ago from our Martinez Shelter and we just received these sweet pictures from his family! His Dad also told us that he "absolutely loves him" and that they go on all sorts of adventures. They went camping in Yosemite and had so much fun exploring together. Boba Fetch has been getting a lot of comments on how handsome he is too.

For your pets, the Fourth of July can be a stressful, scary time. Most animals have sensitive hearing, and the loud noises of parties and fireworks can cause them remarkable stress and discomfort. Here are some tips on how to keep your pets safe this holiday season.

CCAS Stats

CCAS Stats

The CCAS May stats are now available. Please note that we’ve recently made a change to our Live Release Rate (LRR) calculation. This update was made to reflect the need to help us to better analyze our data and to continue to identify the best care for the shelter animals and maximize our life saving potential.
