Contra Costa County Health Order Extended Through May

In coalition with six Bay Area counties, Contra Costa County extended the stay at home health order this week through the month of May. The extended order eases some of the restricted activities that were prohibited under the previous order, though for CCAS things will remain essentially the same. You can view the latest County health order here . To learn about CCAS services during this time, please visit our CCAS COVID-19 page.

During the COVID-19 crisis, CCAS is facilitating adoptions by appointment. For more information on how to adopt pets from our shelter, visit our Adoption Policies page  on our website.

Lilo Adoption Update
Lilo was adopted a week ago and we just got this update from her new family:
"Hello there! I'm Lilo's new fur-ever mama! I felt the need to connect and THANK YOU all for everything you did for this big ol' snausage of love. If they ever want pictures or videos or to say hi via zoom or something, just know that is more than fine with us. She is a dream. It's like she knew right away she was meant to be with us! She slid right into our family and is loving all the snuggles and love! Thank you again for taking care of this cutie. We firmly believe she was meant to be a part of our family!"
Our hearts are exploding with happiness for Lilo. We love her so much and couldn't be more thrilled that she found her perfect fit.

CCAS Stats

CCAS Stats

The CCAS March stats are now available. Please note that we’ve recently made a change to our Live Release Rate (LRR) calculation. The current LRR model is based on the calculation (Live Outcomes/Total Outcomes (excluding missing, wild animals euthanized  and deceased animals picked up in the field x 100%). The prior CCAS LRR calculation was based on (Total Live Outcomes/Total Live Intakes x 100%). This update was made to reflect the need to help us to better analyze our data and to continue to identify the best care for the shelter animals and maximize our life saving potential.
Abandoned kittens

Caring for Abandoned Kittens

They’re cute, cuddly and desperately in need of your help. Or are they?
If you happen upon a litter of tiny kittens outdoors, it’s natural to want to scoop them up and try to care for them yourself or take them to a shelter. But both of those options may actually place them in more danger. To give newborn kittens the best chance of survival, follow these steps. Read more . . .
