What do Santa’s elves, Willy Wonka’s Oompa Loompas and Contra Costa Animal Services’ (CCAS) volunteers have in common? They are the heart and soul that keeps the place running like a fine-tuned machine. Without our volunteers’ love and passion for animals, we couldn’t save the number of animals that we do.
Who runs the Sunday Mobile Adoptions, the Running Dog Program and Book Buddies? Our volunteers. Those programs and events wouldn’t exist without them. And those programs make it possible for our animals to get out and meet people and get time to play and snuggle.
And did you know that all of our cat socializers, dog walkers, adoption counselors, lost and found counselors and rabbit socializers are also volunteers? They spend time with all of our animals, giving them the love and attention they need while waiting for their forever homes. And they work with our citizens to help them find their lost pets.
Speaking of our cat and rabbit socializers, they are rare breeds. They are not often seen in public, so we believe they have some sort of stealth technology that keeps them from showing up in photos, but we know you’re out there!
But wait! There’s more! Our volunteers are responsible for our annual St. Pitty’s Day adoption event and for fostering animals and transporting them to rescue partners. They also play the role of Kitten mommies during kitten season. Those little babies wouldn’t make it if it weren’t for someone feeding them every three to four hours. You’ll even find our volunteers in the medical center, monitoring animals after surgery, cleaning up and sanitizing equipment. They are involved with our emergency response and posting on our social media. This certainly isn’t everything, but as you can see, we couldn’t do the work we do without volunteers. And it’s not only the staff who appreciate them, but so many of our animals. Here’s just a few who have found homes because our wonderful volunteers. From the staff and from the animals, we thank you for all you do!
