Registered Service Agencies

A Registered Service Agency (RSA) is a company that installs, services, repairs, or reconditions commercial weighing or measuring devices in California for payment. Registered Service Agents are employees of an RSA, and follow strict guidelines mandated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the California Division of Measurement Standards (DMS).  

Interesting fact: There are times when Weights and Measures inspectors perform "witness testing."  In certain cases, the inspector does not have the necessary specialized equipment to perform a test to verify the accurate measurement of a device. When this occurs, inspectors work alongside a registered service agent while the agent performs the test.  Upon completion of testing and verification of the accuracy, the inspector seals the device.
